Porfidio Reposado Tequila
Porfidio Reposado Tequila — sold by the house as The Reposado by Porfidio, a Reposado "Extra" — is a 750mL bottling of 100% blue agave tequila from Jalisco, Mexico, rested seven months in hand-toasted virgin oak barrels where the category's custom is closer to two. It is presented in Porfidio's famous hand-made glass bottle with a glass cactus inside, the presentation that made the brand a collector's name. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

The House That Bottled a Cactus
Porfidio was created in the early 1990s by Austrian entrepreneur Martin Grassl, who moved to Mexico and built a luxury agave brand around two ideas: take the liquid further than the category required, and put it in a bottle nobody would throw away. The Reposado "Extra" is the first idea at work — seven continuous months in virgin oak instead of the customary short rest, so the barrel gives it real colour and vanilla-cinnamon warmth. The hand-made glass bottle with its enclosed cactus is the second. Grassl's house never distilled in one fixed distillery of its own, producing instead with its own crew at rented distilleries — which is why Porfidio bottlings reward a close read of the label. More Mexican spirits are in our tequila collection and across the Porfidio vendor page.
Tasting Notes
Brand-lineage notes for the Reposado describe wood and cooked agave on the nose; a soft, warm palate of agave with vanilla and cinnamon; and a finish with a slight spice lift — the virgin-oak rest showing through without burying the agave.
How to Enjoy
Neat, at room temperature, in a glass that lets the oak and agave trade places — this is a reposado built past the category minimum to be sipped, not shot. More contemplative pours are in our spirits collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Porfidio Reposado an "Extra"?
The house rests it for seven months in hand-toasted virgin oak barrels rather than the roughly two months customary for reposado — hence Reposado "Extra." The legal reposado window runs from two months to under a year, so seven months is a deliberate over-rest inside the class.
What is the cactus inside the Porfidio bottle?
Porfidio's signature presentation is a hand-made glass bottle containing a small glass cactus — the detail that made the brand famous with collectors. Bottle details vary across the house's bottlings and eras, so the exact figurine follows the bottle on the shelf.
Is Porfidio Reposado 100% agave?
It is labelled and sold as a 100% blue agave tequila, per the brand's current copy for this bottling.
