Porfidio 2G Single Malt Whisky
Porfidio 2G Single Malt Whisky is a 750mL Australian single malt bottled at 43.4% ABV, made from 100% blue barley as a single-variety, single-malt, single-cask, single-estate whisky. A Tequila House's Second Generation Makes Whisky
Porfidio built its name on agave in Mexico, which makes 2G the family's left turn: a whisky made the old-fashioned way, from barley alone, the way Scotch was made before other grains crept in. The brand chose the yeast style that pulls fruity flavour out of the grain rather than neutralising it, grew blue-aleurone barley on a single estate in New South Wales, and put the spirit into small oak casks — 110 litres, Australian-made Quercus alba — so the wood and the barley meet at full strength. Nothing is blended away: one variety, one estate, one cask per bottling. See the wider Porfidio range on the Porfidio vendor page and in our whisky collection.
Tasting Notes
Retailer tasting notes for this bottling describe a light, agave-like smokiness over clear barley malt, with honey, lemon and freshly sanded wood; a sweet-and-savoury malt palate with a buttery texture, a lemony edge and toasted honey; and a finish where butter, honey and malt linger with a light peppery tingle.
How to Enjoy
Neat in a small glass — a single-cask malt at this size of cask rewards slow pouring, and a few drops of water lift the lemon and honey. More world whisky is across our spirits collection.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does "2G" mean in Porfidio 2G?
Second generation: the whisky was created by Emiliano Grassl, the second generation of the Porfidio family house, as a single-variety, single-cask whisky project.
Where is Porfidio 2G made?
In Australia, from blue barley grown on a single estate in New South Wales — a whisky offshoot from a house better known for Mexican agave spirits.
What is blue barley?
A blue-aleurone malted barley — barley whose aleurone layer under the husk is blue — used at 100% of the mash here, the brand's nod to how Scotch whisky was originally made, from barley alone.
