Seven Times Through the Still

The name is the recipe: Platinum 7X earns the "7X" with four passes through column stills and three more in a dedicated pot still — an unusually thorough distillation for the price tier. It comes out of Buffalo Trace Distillery, the same Frankfort, Kentucky plant behind some of America's most allocated bourbons, which is a pedigree most vodkas at this price can't claim. Back-to-back Golds at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2011 and 2012 confirmed what the stills were doing. Among vodkas built for the home bar, the 1.75L handle is the value play.

Tasting Notes

Clean and neutral on the nose with a faint grain sweetness. The palate is soft and extra-smooth — the seven distillations doing their work — with a gentle, rounded finish and no harsh burn.

How to Enjoy

Ice-cold in a martini or a vodka soda where smoothness is the whole point. The handle format makes it a workhorse for Bloody Marys, Moscow Mules and party-batch cocktails.
