Kroener + Barton = KROBAR
The name is the founders in one word — Stephen Kroener and Joe Barton — and the distillery is a California craft operation that opened in Paso Robles in 2012 before moving to larger San Luis Obispo premises in 2022. Its rye is built on an 85% rye / 15% malted rye mash, distilled once and rested in charred American oak; the Paso Robles Distillery Trail's producer listing adds that the rye grain is harvested in New York and Canada. Explore the distillery on the Krobar vendor page, or browse our rye whiskey collection.
Tasting Notes
Per the Paso Robles Distillery Trail's producer listing: spicy black pepper, clove and cinnamon from the rye, with orange peel, caramel, honey and vanilla rounding it out.
How to Enjoy
Pour it neat to taste the malted rye's extra spice, or use it in a rye Old Fashioned where the caramel and honey soften the pepper. More California rye is in our rye whiskey collection.
