Kentucky Peerless Double Oak Bourbon Whiskey
Kentucky Peerless Double Oak Bourbon Whiskey is Louisville's grain-to-bottle bourbon finished twice: a barrel-proof, non-chill-filtered sweet-mash bourbon at about 108 proof in this 750mL bottle — and it is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor, San Diego, CA.
The double-oak story started as salvage — a leaky barrel that got a second chance — and became a permanent release in September 2021. The bourbon ages a minimum of four years in new charred American oak, then moves to a second set of new charred oak barrels (medium-toasted, then charred to #3 by Kelvin Cooperage) for additional finishing at the master distiller's discretion. Kentucky Peerless Distilling Co. (DSP-KY-50, revived 2015) never sources: strictly sweet mash, no chill filtration, bottled at barrel proof, batch-varying proof.
Brand tasting notes: sweet oak, orange zest, cedar, tobacco, and herbs on the nose; honey sweetness shifting to cinnamon, spicy oak, leather, and cocoa on the palate; a finish of sweet toasted oak and dry cocoa. Retailer-reported: Whisky Advocate 93 points with Top 20 recognition.
Why buy Double Oak? Because second-barrel finishing at barrel proof is where oak stops being seasoning and becomes the main event — and Peerless does it with total grain-to-bottle control. Explore the bourbon whiskey collection, the Peerless brand collection, and all whisky.
Serving note: neat in a Glencairn; the second oak loves a single large cube if you like it opened up.
What proof is it? About 108 proof — bottled at barrel proof, and the exact number varies by batch.
What does "toasted rye" mean here? After primary aging in charred new oak, the rye finishes in a custom medium-toast (not charred) barrel from Kelvin Cooperage.
Is there an age statement? No age statement on the release.
Where is it made? Louisville, Kentucky — distilled, aged, and bottled at Kentucky Peerless Distilling Co. (DSP-KY-50); never sourced.
