Released July 1, 2022 for the 21st anniversary of the band's debut album B.R.M.C., Motor Oil took two years of blind tastings over video calls between founder/master distiller Paul Hletko and the band to dial in. Just 1,800 bottles were made, with label art inspired by the band's logo. The result is full-flavored and complex: grassy and sweet from the rum barrel, herbaceous and vegetal from the vermouth barrel, and heavy mesquite smoke that evokes back roads and roadside barbecue joints. Among bourbon-based blends, few have a story — or a smoke note — like this one.
Tasting notes
Nose: mesquite smoke, grassy sweetness, herbal notes. Palate: sweet rum-barrel grass, bitter-vermouth herbaceousness, heavy mesquite smoke. Finish: smoky and lingering, like a Texas barbecue joint on the wind. (Per the official FEW press release.)
