Dictador 2 Masters Barton Wheat 36 Year Old Rum is a 700mL Colombian rum of almost absurd pedigree: 36 years of tropical aging, bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof), then finished in ex-wheated-bourbon casks from the Barton 1792 Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky. It is the meeting of two masters — Dictador's Hernan Parra and Barton 1792's Drew Mayville — and one of only about 249 bottles in existence. This is a collector-grade spirit; order online at Del Mesa Liquor in San Diego while it's available.

  • Proof / ABV: 90 proof / 45% ABV
  • Size: 700mL
  • Age: 36 years in oak, plus a wheated-bourbon cask finish
  • Origin: distilled and aged in Colombia by Dictador; finished in Kentucky bourbon casks
  • Production: virgin sugarcane honey base, solera-aged; finished ~8 months in ex-wheated-bourbon casks from Barton 1792; additive-free

Two Masters, One Bottle

The 2 Masters series is Dictador's standing invitation to the legends of the spirits world — past editions have paired its ancient Colombian rum with Glenfarclas, Royal Tokaji, and Hardy Cognac. For the Barton editions, vintage rum laid down in the late 1970s and early 1980s was finished in casks that once held 1792 wheated bourbon, marrying Dictador's deep, solera-aged sugarcane-honey character with the soft, bready sweetness only a wheated whiskey cask gives. Each bottle is a hand-finished presentation piece in the Dictador tradition. See more ultra-aged expressions in our rum collection.

Tasting Notes

Deep, lustrous mahogany in the glass. The nose is luxuriously soft — vanilla, butter caramel, coffee bean, and cocoa over antique leather and dried dark fruit. The palate is satiny and full: mocha, butter pecan, dark molasses, and dried fruit, with the wheated cask's creamy sweetness threading through. The finish is long and indulgent — coffee, maple syrup, tobacco, and a touch of oak.

How to Enjoy

Neat, in a Glencairn or tulip glass, at room temperature — water only if you insist, a single drop at a time. This is a special-occasion pour; give it fifteen minutes to open and don't rush it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does "2 Masters" mean?
The rum is a collaboration between two master blenders — Hernan Parra of Dictador and Drew Mayville of Barton 1792 — who jointly selected the casks and the finish.

Why is it so limited?
Only about 249 bottles were produced from the finished casks, each a presentation piece.

Is Dictador rum sweetened?
The 2 Masters editions are additive-free — no sugar, no coloring — a pure expression of the aged rum and the finishing cask.
