From GoldenEye to the Glass
Chris Blackwell founded Island Records and carried Jamaican music to the world; with Blackwell Fine Jamaican Rum, launched in 2008 with Richard Kirshenbaum, he has been bringing the taste of Jamaica itself to the world. The recipe is his family's — from the era when his mother's family owned J. Wray & Nephew and the Appleton Estate — and the rum is still distilled and blended by J. Wray & Nephew in Jamaica. At home, it is the rum enjoyed by the musician and artist friends who visit Blackwell at GoldenEye, his Jamaican estate. Deep, rich and fragrant, Black Gold is matured in American oak and bottled in the island's traditional dark, pot-still style. Tasting Notes
Tropical fruit first — ripe banana, mango and pineapple — over caramel, molasses and brown sugar. The palate adds coconut, baking spice and light oak, with the unmistakable Jamaican pot-still funk underneath, and the finish returns to molasses and gentle spice.
How to Enjoy
Rich enough to sip neat or over a large cube, and built for the classics: ginger beer and lime, a rum Old Fashioned, or anywhere a deep, funky Jamaican rum is the point of the drink.
