ArteNOM 'Seleccion de 1579' Blanco Tequila is a 750mL blanco bottled at 40.7% ABV (81.4 proof), selected by Jake Lustig of ArteNOM from NOM 1579 — Destilería El Pandillo in Jesús María, in the Jalisco highlands. Master distiller Felipe Camarena mills 100% highland blue Weber agave — grown at roughly 6,200 feet — with the mechanical tahona-type crusher nicknamed "Frankenstein", ferments it with its fibres in rainwater, double-distils it in copper pots, and proofs it with half rainwater and half filtered well water before an aeration rest in steel. It is bottled unaged and additive-free. It is available to order online at Del Mesa Liquor.

Frankenstein's Crusher: El Pandillo in a Blanco

Felipe Camarena built El Pandillo around old methods and ingenious machinery — most famously a tahona-type crusher assembled from a steamroller wheel and scrap steel, nicknamed Frankenstein, that mills cooked agave with its fibres intact, the slow way. ArteNOM's blanco selection captures what that process tastes like with nothing in the way: no oak, no rest, just stressed hillside agave from one of tequila's highest-altitude regions, fermented with its fibres and proofed on rainwater. It is one of the benchmark traditional blancos in the ArteNOM line. Explore the project on the ArteNOM vendor page, or browse our tequila collection.

Tasting Notes

Per the importer's sheet: rising pastry dough, spring rain, mint and bold roasted agave on the nose; a velvety, wine-like palate of spearmint, white pepper and a fresh chile tingle.

How to Enjoy

Sip neat to study it, or put its mint and pepper to work in a Ranch Water or a blanco Martini riff. More traditional blancos are in our spirits collection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the 1579 in ArteNOM Seleccion de 1579 mean?
It is the NOM — the official distillery registry number. NOM 1579 is Destilería El Pandillo in Jesús María, Jalisco, where Felipe Camarena is master distiller; ArteNOM names each selection for its distillery.

What is the "Frankenstein" at El Pandillo?
A mechanical tahona-type crusher built from a converted steamroller wheel and scrap steel. It mills the cooked agave with its fibres — gentler than a standard roller mill — which helps give this blanco its texture and depth.

What proof is ArteNOM Seleccion de 1579 Blanco?
81.4 proof (40.7% ABV), 750mL, per the current importer's specification.
