Single Malt Scotch Whisky | 700mL | 50.4% ABV (100.8 proof) | No Age Statement — The Macallan Art is the Flower is a limited-edition release from the Macallan Tree of Life Collection, announced April 29, 2025 in collaboration with the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society. It takes its name from Mackintosh's 1902 lecture "Art is the Flower" and draws on his stained-glass panel The Spirit of the Rose. Whisky Maker Steven Bremner selected sherry-seasoned European oak casks from Jerez, Spain (Tevasa oak, first- and second-fill) for the maturation, bottled at natural color. The launch was accompanied by short documentary films featuring figures including fashion designer Christopher Kane and the Hill House and House of an Art Lover. Where most limited Macallans lean on age statements or city themes, Art is the Flower is a design-and-arts collaboration — Speyside sherry-cask whisky in dialogue with Scotland's most famous architect-designer. At 50.4%, it also pours stronger than most Macallan special editions.
Tasting notes
Nose: rich dried fruits — raisins and fig — polished oak, cherry, orange, almonds, treacle. Palate: sweet oak, raisins, vanilla, ginger, apple, a wisp of leaf tea. Finish: long, sweet, rich, full. (Official tasting notes via Royal Mile Whiskies.)
