In 1824, before our founder George Smith licensed his distillery, the remote Glenlivet valley was the perfect location for the illicit scotch whisky trade, with distilleries handcrafting in smaller copper stills in bothies well hidden from the law.

It was there in the isolated valley that George Smith would learn his craft. Slowly and carefully distilling what would soon become the world-renowned single malt scotch whisky that established the signature fruity floral Speyside style.

seriously good stuff

Generally speaking, a limited edition scotch is gonna be good and this is no exception. For being 96 proof it's seriously smooth. I'll put this up against many older bottles of scotch I've had.

Clean and fresh

Glenlivet 12 was the first scotch I tried (many, many years ago). I’ve been hooked ever since. They just released the Illicit Still, so, naturally, I had to smuggle a dram. Like the original 12, it is very clean and fresh – not heavy or super-sweet. It opens with green apples and green pears with raw barley – very light, then subtle vanilla and honey, finally with blood orange peel. The legs are light and the finish medium. This is a good warmer-weather scotch. Drink slow, drink long, drink a variety, drink often.
